Kathmandu . Chairman of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the party should be further strengthened by fully following the philosophy, thinking and thinking of the founding leader of the party, BP Koirala.
On the occasion of the 111th birth anniversary of the first elected Prime Minister, BP Koirala, while addressing the opening ceremony of the Literary Festival organized by the Kathmandu branch of the Nepali Writers’ Association at the BP Museum, President Deuba said that party leaders, activists and well-wishers should take inspiration from BP’s struggle for democracy.
Chairman Deuba directed the party leaders and workers to promote the contribution of BP to the establishment and restoration of democracy, sustainable development of Nepal and Nepali literature nationwide. While mentioning that BP Koirala’s policy of national unity and reconciliation is equally relevant even now, he said that Congress has always been coordinating for reconciliation among all parties.
BP Koirala was born on August 24, 1971. His father Krishna Prasad Koirala sent a parcel of clothes worn by poor farmers to Rana Prime Minister Chandrashamsher in opposition to the Jahanian Rana regime, and the Koirala family had to go into exile in India. BP has been active for the establishment of democracy in Nepal since childhood. Koirala, who became the first elected Prime Minister after the Congress won two-thirds majority in the 2015 general elections, provided political leadership for the establishment of nationalism, democracy and socialism in Nepal. During the Prime Ministership, he abolished the Birta and implemented the land reform program that ‘land should belong to the tiller’.
On 1st December 2017, after the popularly elected government was overthrown by the power of the Royal Nepali Army, Koirala and other leaders were imprisoned in the Singha Darbar. A month later, the official residence of the head of the army’s Sundarijal Arsenal was surrounded by a wall and the ministers including Leader Koirala, First Speaker of the Parliament Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Leader Ganeshman Singh were moved to the Sundarijal detention home.
Koirala, who was released from prison for a medical examination in 2025, lived in exile in India for eight years. After analyzing that the nationalism was weakened while in exile in India and fighting for the restoration of democracy, he returned to his country with the policy of national unity and reconciliation on January 16, 2033 without paying the eight death cases. The policy of reconciliation adopted by him is considered equally relevant in the country’s politics even today.
After returning to Nepal with the policy of reconciliation, there was an atmosphere of public opinion gathering on the option of multi-party or reformed Panchayat. Despite nationwide complaints that the multi-party party was defeated due to rigging, BP accepted the election results. BP died on July 6, 2039 due to cancer. After the death of BP, the Congress and its fraternal and well-wishers have been celebrating the memorial day on July 6 and the birth anniversary on August 24. Similarly, BP is also celebrating Reconciliation Day to commemorate the return of India exile to Nepal on 16th January 2033 with the policy of national unity and reconciliation. Rasas
