Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has indicated that the government will soon review the Supreme Court’s decision that no structure can be built up to 20 meters from the river bank of Kathmandu.
Prime Minister Oli has made it clear that the government will be ready to address the issues of the local people and the concerned groups, while understanding the memorandum of the team including Suman Saimi, coordinator of the Valley Road Expansion Victims’ Struggle Committee and River Standards Concern Group. “We accept the decision of the honorable court. Some judgments may be flawed due to various reasons. If the decision is not appropriate, the legal way to correct it is review. I believe the court will understand the people’s concerns and you will get justice.
In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Residence, Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Oli said, “Nepali culture is a culture of unity and friendship. Many elements may be involved in destroying our civilization and culture. We must strengthen our national unity and existence. Some people who have no background can disturb the sense of national unity.
We should all be aware of this.” After the full text of the court’s decision came out, the decision of the head level of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on July 24th was informed not to build a structure up to 20 meters from the river bank. The struggle committee has demanded to review the decision and not to implement the mayor’s notice as millions of people will be displaced and property will not be protected if the decision and notice are implemented.
