Jumla. Karnali Institute of Health Sciences has launched its own Ophthalmology Department, Eye Hospital.
A decade and a half after the establishment of the foundation, the Eye Hospital in Jumla has come into operation.
On Sunday, world famous Dr. Sanduk Ruit formally inaugurated the Ophthalmology Department established in the institution, and the Eye Hospital in Jumla came into operation.
Initially, manual surgery will be started in the eye hospital. Preparations are now being made to perform surgery using Feco technology. Residents of Karnali are excited that a normal eye department has been transformed into a powerful hospital.
Dr. Ruit is also happy to reach remote Karnali and serve. With the operation of the eye hospital, Dr. Ruit will perform more than 100 cataract surgeries in his presence. Under which 40 common people of Jumla have undergone cataract surgery on the first day on Saturday alone.
Karnali health science institute established in remote Karnali is expanding its services one after the other, the people of Karnali who died prematurely due to lack of treatment have now reached the access of quality and specialist health services.
Despite continuous efforts for a long time, the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences could not arrange eye treatment. Non-availability of eye doctors was the main problem and lack of good equipment was another problem. Due to the lack of equipment, not much could be done apart from the normal eye check. However, with the initiative of the institute’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mangal Rawal, Registrar Nripendra Mahatko and the cooperation of Tilganga Eye Hospital, after years, the Eye Hospital in Jumla with equipment worth one and a half crores was able to operate, said Vishwaraj Timilsina, head of the eye department of the institute.
According to him, the eye hospital has come into operation after bringing equipment worth more than one and a half million. Now common people are freed from the cost of going to Kathmandu after spending lakhs for eye treatment.
On that occasion, Dr. Ruit said that it was a very happy thing that the eye treatment started in Jumla. He said that it is certain that Jumla is the destination of Karnali from the point of view of eye treatment along with other possibilities.
He said, “I am happy to reach Jumla Humla and restore sight to hundreds of people. If the service is provided regularly, there will be 2000 cataract surgeries per year. Keeping in view the increasing eye problems in remote areas, an eye hospital has been brought into operation in Jumla.
Dr. Mangal Rawal, the Vice Chancellor of the institute, had been taking initiatives with Dr. Ruit for the operation of an eye hospital in Jumla for a long time. Dr. Ruit was also ready to help in Karnali. As a result, some equipment has also come with the help of Dr. Ruit.
Registrar Nripendra Mahat said that with the operation of the eye department, the situation of having to wait at the camp for eye treatment in Jumla has come to an end.
