Kathmandu. Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Deepak Kumar Kharal has said that there is a challenge of market management in agricultural products.
In today’s meeting of the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee, he said that even if production is done, it is a challenge to deliver it to the market. He said, “There is a problem of intermediaries. Producers are not getting the price and consumers are forced to buy at higher prices.”
In the meeting, the committee took information about the programs and plans to be edited by the ministry, the problems in the performance and the budget, and discussed about the necessary facilitation in solving the problems.
Secretary Dr. Kharal pointed out that there is a need for budget and investment in the agricultural sector. He said, “Agricultural sector should be made more employment-oriented. We are able to export cash crops, we have also given priority to this, cardamom cultivation is a good example of that.”
In the meeting, MP Bijula Rayamazhi said that due to the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers on human life and climate change, emphasis should be placed on organic farming systems. Member of Parliament Yakjan Thapalia drew attention to the fact that real farmers could not get subsidies.
Parliamentarians Amritlal Rajvanshi, Suryakumari Shrestha, Saraswati Subba, Suryaprasad Dhakal and others expressed their opinions regarding commercial farming, subsidized food for farmers, and increasing production.
