Gurkha. Chepang community of Gorkha district including Dhading, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Tanahun, Lamjung and 6 districts celebrated Nwagi festival in Gorkha today.
The program organized in Tomandanda located in Gandaki Rural Municipality of Gorkha District was chaired by Govindram Chepang, Central President of Nepal Chepang Association.
Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality President Rameshbabu Thapa Magar, Gandaki Rural Municipality President Deepak Timilsana, Tribal Tribes Federation President Bishnu Ranamgar and others expressed their best wishes on the occasion of the festival.
Govindram Chepang, the central president of Nepal Chepang Association, said that this festival is considered as the beginning of the new year for the Chepang people.
He said that there are 84,000 Chepang castes in 26 districts of Nepal. Gandaki Rural Municipality of Gorkha has been providing free residential education to the children of Chepang community, said Deepak Timilsina, chairman of the rural municipality. He said that the Chepangs in more than 750 households are in the riverside area as the first sons of this municipality. Timilsina, who was also the chief guest of the program, said that these Chepangs are the ones who teach farming in the Bhir Pakhas here.
