Banke women raising awareness against human trafficking

left The women of Janki Rural Municipality of the district have been active in raising awareness in the villages against human trafficking and gender violence.

The women of Janki-1 Saigaon, Ward No. 4 Khajurakhurd and Ward No. 6 Ganapur have been organizing various activities against human trafficking and gender violence. Devisara Thakuri Bhujuwa, a resident of Janki-4 Nahar Chowk, said that because women are subjected to violence due to domestic violence, awareness should be raised in the household. “It is important to be aware of taking advantage of poverty and wealth to exploit women”, Devisar said, “Economically weak women and children without parents can be targeted by brokers.”

Local Gyanu Swarnakar said that in the Swavalamban group formed in Tolbasti, women and sisters are discussing and raising awareness about human trafficking and gender-based violence, and now everyone is becoming aware.

In the self-reliance group formed through the ‘Our efforts in the community to end human trafficking and gender-based violence’ project conducted by INF Banke, women sisters have been discussing the social problems of the village and issues such as human trafficking and violence against women.

Geeta Tiwari of Janaki rural municipality-6 Kapasi said that although women and sisters are becoming aware of human trafficking and gender violence, they have not been able to reduce the incidents. He demands that the local government and social organizations should conduct programs to benefit women financially, as human trafficking and domestic violence are caused by economic weakness.

“Educated, well-educated women and sisters are the victims of gender violence”, he said, “The practice of considering gender violence as an internal matter of the family has not come out.” Around 300 women belonging to 30 self-reliance groups formed in Saigaon, Khajurakhudrdha and Ganapur of Janaki have now become aware of human trafficking and gender-based violence in the village society and are trying to make the society aware. Sanju Gadaria, a resident of Janki Rural Municipality-6 Ganapur, said that after joining the group, he got an opportunity to learn about the causes of human trafficking, gender and domestic violence.

Ramesh Kumar Burma, Ward President of Janki Rural Municipality-4, said that the project conducted by INF at the community level is doing very positive things and said that the local residents are trying to put what they have learned into practice. He said, “The Madhesi community is still lagging behind in terms of education and awareness, and is also lagging behind in social development, including gender violence.”

In order to end human trafficking and gender-based violence for the next year, the program will be made effective in coordination with the local government,” said Ward President Burma.
