Kathmandu. In collaboration with two major political parties in the House of Representatives, Nepal Communist Party (UML) President KP Sharma Oli is taking over the executive leadership of the country as the new Prime Minister on Sunday.
After Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda”s resolution regarding vote of confidence presented in the House of Representatives on Friday was not passed, the process of forming a new government has started.
Based on the agreement reached between Nepali Congress and UML on June 17, President Oli is going to be appointed as the Prime Minister. According to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, President Ramchandra Paudel on Friday gave two or more parties in the House of Representatives until 5:00 PM on Sunday to submit their claims for Prime Ministership. As soon as the notification for the appointment of the new Prime Minister was issued by the President’s Office, two parties have already submitted claims to appoint Oli to the said post.
Some second level leaders of both parties have said that there is a strong possibility that President Paudel will appoint President Oli, who is going to be the Prime Minister for the fourth time. Mahesh Vartaula, chief whip of UML, informed that after the appointment of President Oli as Prime Minister from President Paudel, he is ready to take the oath of office and secrecy within Monday. In the first phase, the Congress and the UML are engaged in homework to form a small cabinet.
Previously, President Oli has been the Prime Minister three times in 2072, 2074 and 2078. He, who was engaged in the struggle for democracy, had been imprisoned for a long time under the autocratic Panchayat governance system.
