Vandalism at the Kawasoti Municipality office.
32 June, Chitwan. 10 points have been agreed between the local administration and local residents in the Kawasoti incident in East Nawalparasi.
The area around the Kawasoti Municipality office was tense on Friday after 3 women workers died after the drain collapsed on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon, it was agreed between the two parties to prepare an inscription of the deceased at the incident site, to provide employment to a member of the deceased’s family and to transfer the employment.
Similarly, it has been agreed that 5 lakhs in cash and 5 lakhs will be deposited in a fixed account to the family of the deceased, and that their children will be educated up to 12th standard with educational materials.
On Thursday, 3 working women died after being buried by the mud of the under-construction drain at Kawasoti’s fruit market.
Seti Rana, Tanmaya Gaha and Chameli Sinjali of Kawasoti Municipality 5 died in the accident due to the overflowing of the drain. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Madhyabindu Hospital.
The local residents who started protesting about the incident vandalized the Kawasoti Municipality office and the house of Mayor Bishnu Prasad Bhushal in East Nawalparasi.
4 policemen were slightly injured in the incident. The police fired a few rounds of tear gas to control the protest.
On Thursday night, the locals surrounded the house of Mayor Bishnu Prasad Bhushal and raised slogans saying that the work started after the rain, the municipality did not monitor properly and did not pay proper attention to the safety of the workers at the workplace.
The emergency meeting of the executive committee of Kawasoti municipality held on Friday decided to give a holiday today to mourn the deceased woman.
The municipality had made an agreement on 30th of Baisakh for the sewage disposal, and through the consumer committee, the sewage disposal work was carried forward from the Thana Chowk of Kawasoti to the east.
