31 May, Kathmandu. Bagmati province has won the double title in basketball of the first U-15 school sports on Thursday.
Bagmati succeeded to become champions in both boys and girls. Bagmati’s opponent in both the finals was Gandaki.
Bagmati defeated Gandaki 39-31 in the boys’ final at Pokhara Stadium.
Pranjal Basnet contributed 17 points in Bagmati’s win. Saubhagya Pun of Gandaki added 12 points.
After trailing 4-7 in the first quarter, Bagmati took the lead 16-12 in the second quarter and remained ahead by 1 point overall. By the end of the third quarter, Bagmati trailed 25-29.
Gandaki scored 10-5 in the third quarter. In the last and fourth quarter, Bagmati secured the title by winning 14-2. Koshi settled for third place.
Bagmati beat Gandaki 13-8 with the help of Zara Maharjan’s 8 points in the girls title match. Bagmati established a foundation for victory by leading 4-1, 3-2 and 2-1 respectively in the first three quarters. The fourth quarter ended with a tie of 4-4.
There were 7 provinces in boys and 6 provinces except Far West in girls.
