31st June, Chitwan. According to the Division Road Office Chitwan, there is a risk of landslides in 25 places on the Narayangadh-Muglin road. According to Ramesh Prasad Paudel, head of the said office, 4 of them are high risk and 7 are low risk.
There is a high risk of landslides in Maury Bridge, Namsi Bridge, Kalikhola and Tuin Bridge areas. An estimated cost of 52 crore rupees will be spent on the Namsi, Kalikhola and Tuin Khola landslides of the road. ‘Slope stabilization’ and ‘rock netting’ will have to be done at those places.
Similarly, roads in Gaighat, Dumre Pul, Ghuwan, Simaltal, Jalvere and Panch Kilo, which have a low risk of landslides, will also have to be managed. During the rains of 2080, there were 30 landslides on this road and 36 times in 2079, traffic was blocked many times.
Engineer Sagar Karki of the office said that since there is a risk of erosion anytime after rain, equipment will be prepared at Seti Dobhan, Maury Bridge and Char Kilo. Equipment will also be managed from the Heavy Equipment Division at Hetauda and the mechanical office at Dumre.
In Kerabari of the same road section, an organization called Naturebase Solutions is studying landslide control using bio-engineering technology. The organization has written to the road department to study at 11 places in Khare Khola, Bhateri’s Oralo, Gaighat, Setidobhan, Jalvere, 26 Kilo and 4 Kilo areas of the same road.
