30 June, Kathmandu. A complaint has been registered at District Police Office, Kathmandu against a state MP for keeping child labor at home.
It is mentioned in the complaint that Rekha Kumari Sharma, MP of Lumbini State Assembly, committed an offense against the Children Act by keeping the victim as a domestic worker since she was 8 years old.
District Police Complex, Kathmandu Chief SSP Vasant Razoure did not want to talk about the complaint. However, according to another officer of the Kathmandu Police, the victim was rescued during the campaign against child labor by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
“After the liberation, a complaint was filed against child labor from the metropolis,” the official said, “We have registered a complaint and started a detailed investigation.” Wednesday is also International Day Against Child Labour.
During the operation conducted by the metropolis, at least 30 child laborers have been rescued from Kathmandu and it has also been found that a teenage girl who was kept as a laborer was raped.
Inspector Vidur Sivakoti of Nepal Police is still in custody for his involvement in the rape.
