30 June, Kathmandu. During the discussion on the budget of the Ministry of Defense in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the MPs also raised questions about the work of the Nepali Army.
CPN-UML Deputy Secretary General Prithvisubba Gurung questioned how justified it is to involve the Nepali Army in the work of development.
“We let Nepali Army, which has such a sensitive structure, which is part of it, do business and contract. How justified is this matter of sensitivity in terms of security?’, MP Gurung asked.
The government has entrusted the Nepali Army with the construction of many roads, including the Kathmandu-Tarai Madhesh expressway (fast track). This issue is being debated at the parliament and public level from time to time.
UML leader Gurung said that they should think about involving the army in the work of development. Leaders cannot open their mouths about this today. But, we have to think”, he said.
According to Gurung, the army’s ambitions will increase when it is involved in development and construction, and it may lead to crisis in the future. ‘If too much ambition increases, it affects our democracy, republic… haven’t we seen the crisis in different countries when ambition increases? We have seen it”, he said.
Nepali Congress MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam said that it is necessary to protect the honor of the Nepali Army. ‘The army is the only institution that has survived. We have completed everything’, he says, ‘Let’s save its originality.’
He said that the government should be clear in terms of policy to increase the respect of the army. ‘The army should be used for development. However, if we use it in business during development, it will come with ejaculation in the long run. It affects its beauty’, he said, ‘It is not good to have questions or comments in the army. We should be targeted on this side.’
Aam Janata Party President Prabhu Sah said that the Nepali Army can be used for development, but the Army itself should not be allowed to award contracts.
‘Army which has taken charge of development. If the army gives the contract to the same contractor, what is the difference between the road division and the army?’ Shah asked, ‘If it is to be done through the contractor, why do it through the army?’
He further said, ‘Let’s not reduce the status of the army.’ He suggested that it is necessary to modernize the army and for this the government should take a clear policy.
Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Dhruv Bahadur Pradhan said that the government should be serious about the far-reaching use of the Nepali Army. Pradhan told that the history of using the Nepalese army diplomatically (strategically) is with Nepal.
“We don’t just talk about the use of the army, we have a history of how we should use it diplomatically.” Even when there was a blockade (blockade), we can remember that because the army was activated, the action was a little faster”, said Pradhan.
He said that the army is also being used in sports. Nepali Army is affiliated with International Military Association Sports Association. I remember doing some competitions by bringing the army of other countries”, Pradhan said.
