30 June, Kathmandu. The leader of Civil Rights Party, Resham Chaudhary, said that the Tharus were forced to be convicted in the Tikapur incident and that the state should apologize by giving them proper compensation.
Addressing the Nepal Samajwadi Party convention in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he asked, ‘What was our crime? Whoever put the injured in a rickshaw and took them to the hospital should be jailed for 8 and a half years?’
He said that it is time to publicize the name of the perpetrators of the Tikapur incident. ‘Don’t ask us who caused the Tikapur incident. Ask the Red Commission. If you need to say a person’s name, we will say it. Now is the time to name Tikapur”, Chaudhary said.
Chowdhury also said that it is sad that the Election Commission declared the convention of Civil Liberation Party, which gathered 10,500 people’s representatives and 139,000 Tharus, to be illegal. ‘Parties that don’t hold conventions are valid, conventions held by people in the harsh winter of December are illegal?’ He questioned.
He said that they are tired of the present governance system and Chowdhury opined that a new governance system should be introduced now.
