22 June, Kathmandu. In their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Nepal lost to the Netherlands by 6 wickets.
The target of 107 runs given by Nepal was completed by the Netherlands in 18.4 overs by losing 4 wickets. For the Netherlands, opener Max O’Dowd scored the highest 54 runs while remaining unbeaten. He played 48 balls and hit 4 fours and 1 six. Similarly, Bikramjit Singh added 22 runs and Saebrand Engelbrecht added 14 runs. Bas de Lied scored 11 unbeaten runs.
For Nepal, Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airi and Abhinash Bohra took one wicket each.
Before that, Nepal, who lost the toss and batted first at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, scored 106 runs after losing all wickets in 19.2 overs.
Nepal, which is playing the T20 World Cup for the second time after a decade, was aiming to get off to a good start in the first game. But Nepal’s batting was not good against the strong team of Associate Cricket, Netherlands.
Captain Rohit Paudel scored the highest 35 runs in 37 balls for Nepal, where only four players scored in double figures. He hit 5 fours. After Rohit tried to handle the innings from one end, he could not get any momentum.
In the lower order, Karan KC scored 17 runs with the help of 2 sixes playing 12 balls. Gulsan Jha hit 1 six in 15 balls and 14 and Anil Shah added 11 runs in 12 balls with the help of 2 fours.
Sompal Kami, the only player who played for Nepal for the second time in T20 World Cup, was dismissed for zero. Abhinash Bohra, who was dismissed as the last wicket, could not open his account either.
Tim Prinzle and Logan Van Wyk took 3 wickets and Paul Van Meekeren and Bas de Lied took 2 wickets for the Netherlands to bowl out Nepal.
