Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said that democratic socialism cannot be imagined without the rights of the people.
In an interaction on ‘Democratic Socialism and Today’s Situation’ organized by Samvad Kendra on the occasion of the 111th birth anniversary of Jananayak Vishweshwar Prasad Koirala, he said that as BP Koirala said, the vision of democratic socialism will be fulfilled only if the people have direct access to governance.
“Through periodic elections, the people will choose their representatives and run the government through the representatives, the people will govern themselves through the representatives, this is what the democratic governance system is,” he said. He said that there are different interpretations of democratic socialism between the Congress and the Communists.
Former Congress General Minister Sitaula said that since 2046, Congress has led the communists to walk on the path of peace and democracy. He said that BP Koirala is a leader with dynamic ideas.
Congress Joint General Minister Mahalakshmi Upadhyay ‘Dina’ said that the constitution of Nepali Congress clearly recognizes BP Koirala. He said that the party has moved forward with the ideas and ideals given by BP Koirala. Netri Upadhyay opined that Congress should always advance the ideas of BP whether it is out of power or in power. He said that the country will develop only if the local level is strong.
Minister of State for Forests and Environment Rupa Vishwakarma mentioned that every caste and community is represented in the constitution due to the policy of democratic socialism put forward by BP Koirala.
Kundanraj Kafle, Central Member of Congress and Minister of Economic Affairs of Bagmati Province, said that Congress is fulfilling the dream of democratic socialism seen by BP. He mentioned that the dream of BP will not be fulfilled until the presence of the poor and underprivileged in the state, so it should be fulfilled.
General Minister of Congress Koshi Province and Minister of Physical Infrastructure of Koshi Province Bhupendra Rai, Congress Baglung Chairman Jeet Bahadur Sherchan and others said that if the rights given by the constitution can be fulfilled, the dream of democratic socialism seen by BP Koirala will be fulfilled.
