United Nations. Sudanese women and children affected by the civil war in the country are deprived of basic needs such as food, water and security, so they need special protection, a United Nations official said on Friday.
Laila Baker, Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund, said that the ongoing conflict in Sudan is a terrible form of anti-humanitarian conflict.
He said that there is a lack of clean water, sanitation and sufficient food and medical services in the conflict-affected areas.
According to the United Nations, more than 16 months of war in Sudan have killed tens of thousands of people and displaced more than 10 million.
Mentioning that Sudanese women and children are forced to suffer physical and mental violence along with the conflict, he has indicated that they need special support for a comfortable life.
Calling for more support for aid, Baker said, “Since the children are suffering from two or three infections at the same time, there is no treatment system for control.
Stating that he has heard the sad stories of women and children, he said that it is impossible to talk openly about these innumerable pains, they need more protection than basic needs like water and food. RSS/AFP
