Climate change is having an unimaginable impact on the Himalayas: Foreign Minister Rana

Patan (Lalitpur). Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has said that climate change is having an unimaginable impact on the Himalayan region and has said that it should be thought of in time to prevent its impact.

Speaking at the opening of the international conference on environmental change in the Himalayan region held today in Lalitpur under the joint project of seven organizations including the National Nature Conservation Fund, he said that due to climate change, the melting of mountains is increasing rapidly. He said that this is having a negative impact not only on the lifestyle of the citizens living in the Himalayan region but also on the entire ecological cycle.

“Due to climate change, not only Nepal but the Himalayan region is being affected in an unimaginable way, it is becoming a very challenging issue, we have to think about it in time. Although the impact of climate change on the communities living in this area seems to be personal to them, the lack of water resources they are facing is affecting the agricultural system of the area. Due to the effect of which, along with the mountains, the crisis of human existence will arise”, he said.

Pointing out the need to think about the crisis caused by climate change very seriously, he said that due to the similar effects seen in the Himalayan region, a glacier broke out in Thame in Solukhumbu district of eastern Nepal.

“Last year in Kagbeni, Mustang district in the west, there was a huge loss of people’s wealth. This is due to the effect of climate change,” he said. We have to work together.”

Minister Dr. Rana said that the effects of climate change such as the melting of mountains and the appearance of black mountains, the growth of glaciers and the bursting of glaciers, the occurrence of heavy rains and floods in the weather and in the Himalayan region, are being seen due to climate change. He said that a regional program should be started.

Minister Dr. Rana said that all countries should unite internationally to save the future of the Himalayas by reducing its effects due to climate change.

Minister Dr. Rana pointed out the need to train communities in the Himalayan region to avoid the effects of climate change, to develop modern agricultural systems that are less affected by climate change, and to provide necessary practices to the farmers there, to make them practice water resource management and disaster risk preparedness, and to find sustainable solutions through this. For this, Nepal and Himalayan countries like Nepal need the help of the international community.

Appreciating his contribution to the field of mountaineering and tourism, the Senior Vice President of the International Mountaineering Association honored Aung Chiring Sherpa at the ceremony.
