Khotang. It has been demanded to install a temporary belay bridge at Bangsilaghat on the Sunkoshi river connecting Khotang and Udaipur districts. The local people have requested before the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to install a temporary belay bridge at Bangsilaghat in Sunkoshi, which is located on the border of Barahpokhari Rural Municipality-5 Pauwasera in Khotang and Chaudandigarhi Municipality-1 Chaudandigarhi in Udaipur. It is said that the ministry is positive for this.
The local residents of the southern region, who have been commuting through the suspension bridge for a long time, are happy that the Bely Bridge will be connected to Banglighat. Recently, a discussion has been held between Barahpokhari and Jantedhunga Rural Municipality of Khotang and Chaudandigarhi Municipality of Udaipur for the temporary belay bridge connection.
It has been decided to seek permission from the ministry to bring the same bangsilaghat which is urgently needed for connecting Beilibridge. It has been reported that preparations have been started to place the goods of the temporary belay bridge installed at Foxingtar on the Sunkoshi River, which connects Khotang to East Sahar, at Bangsilaghat.
Chief Kaluman Lama of Chaudandigadi Municipality, Chief Karuna Rai of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality, Deputy Chief of Barahpokhari Rural Municipality Bhuwal Rai and ward presidents of all three municipalities, leaders of various political parties and local people participated in the discussion between the people’s representatives of the two districts. A 235 meter long suspension bridge built at a cost of Rs 1 crore 43 lakh in 2075 is operational in Bangsilaghat. The motorable concrete bridge, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 198 million 41 thousand 400 including VAT, is in a state of disrepair.
For the concrete bridge to be built in Bangsilaghat, the construction company signed a construction contract with the road department on 1st November 2079. However, it is said that only about 25 percent of the work on the motorable concrete bridge, which was started to be completed within 33 months, has been completed so far.
The construction of the bridge, which was laid by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka on 1st of January 2079, has not yet progressed. Shalikram Banjara, head of Barahpokhari rural municipality, said that the problem with the motorable bridge under construction in Bangsilaghat was due to the delay of the contractor. Road Department, Bridge Sector, Dharan has informed that the work has been delayed due to the fact that the bridge construction site had to be moved down. The main contractor was searched for and brought to the construction site after the box contract for the motorized concrete bridge became uncontactable.
