‘Incidents of abuse by security personnel increased on Nepal-India border’

32 June, Janakpurdham. Speakers of a program said that due to the increase in cases of misbehavior by security personnel on the Nepal-India border, there has been a rift in the relationship between the citizens of the two countries. They also emphasized on the need to manage the border problem in a scientific manner.

The participants of the interaction on ‘Nepal-India open border harmonious relationship’ organized by the Nepal-India Open Border Dialogue Group in Siraha on Thursday expressed this opinion.

Rajiv Jha, the Central Chairman of Samvad Group, said that there has been an increase in cases of ill-treatment by the security personnel of both the countries in the name of checks. He argued that the religious, cultural and economic relations are deteriorating due to unfair incidents against the citizens of the two countries in the name of checks. “The police administration can control smuggling, drug trafficking and crime through open borders. But there seems to be an intention to cause suffering to the common people. Such actions are creating a rift in the centuries-old relationship between the two countries,’ he said.

He believes that if wire netting is not the solution to prevent crime and smuggling at the border, tourism will be promoted if it can be managed openly by adopting a scientific method.

Bhushan Singh, the leader of the Communist Party of India Male, said that a campaign should be launched for open border management. He said that if the border is not strengthened, crime will increase and the behavior of security personnel will increase the bitterness in religious, cultural and economic relations.

The enlightened civil society leader of Siraha. Ram Pratap Yadav said that there is a need for reforms in the policies and laws related to the border. He is of the opinion that both the countries should protect their nationalities and reduce smuggling and crime and make harmonious relations.

Professor Chandeshwar Prasad Yadav said that more brainstorming is needed on the issue of border management to reduce crime.
