31 May, Kathmandu. The Nepal Press Union has expressed serious concern over the unresolved membership dispute of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
The Press Union has announced that it will go on a strike after refusing to proceed with the election process unilaterally by publishing the membership list without resolving the membership dispute.
Shiv Lamsal, president of the press union, published a statement today and stated that even though the press union is maximally flexible, the relevant party is not responsible.
President Lamsal requested active journalists who were absent based on the list sent by the branch and state committee of the federation to terminate their membership according to the rules and procedures of the federation and publish the final voter list to proceed with the election process.
According to the union, this situation has arisen because the central leadership has removed the names of the members sent by the branches and provinces of the Federation and prepared a list against the law and procedure by adding the names of members from the center and giving membership to non-journalists in order to help those who have faith in such and such organizations.
Chairman Lamsal has appealed to the leadership of Nepal Journalist Federation and all professional organizations related to journalists to prepare an environment to ensure elections on the added date by resolving the membership disputes according to the constitution of the Federation.
Expressing regret that the election could not be held on the previously scheduled date, the union has promised to provide the necessary assistance to complete the election on the last scheduled date.
