Gandaki Champion for Athletics in U-15 School Sports

31 June, Pokhara. The first U-15 school sports competition being held in Pokhara, Gandaki province, has become the team champion in the field of athletics.

Gandaki won 9 medals including 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in athletics and became the team champion.

In the competition jointly organized by the National Sports Council (Rakhep) and the Provincial Sports Council, Gandaki, Lumbini Province came second with 3 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze. Third place Karnali province won 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

All seven participating provinces were not without gold. In the competition for 14 golds, Koshi Province, Sudurpaschim Province, Madhesh Province and Bagmati Province each won one gold each.

Lumbini came first, Gandaki came second and Sudurpaschim came third in the 4 x 100m relay at the Pokhara stadium. Gandaki won gold, Koshi won silver and Karnali won bronze in the women’s competition.

Chhiring Sherpa from Koshi became the first among Satput students. He threw a distance of 10.57 meters.

Ganesh Shrestha from Gandaki was second and Paras Bahadur Shahi from Lumbini was third. Tharu Tharu of Lumbini, who threw 8.37 meters, became the first in the women’s competition. Urmila Raji of Karnali came second and Yuna Saru Magar of Gandaki came third.

Sunil Vick of Bagmati became the first in the students’ 800 meters race. He completed the prescribed distance in 2 minutes 09.63 seconds. Anil Shahi of Karnali was second and Vishal Tharu of Lumbini was third. Purnima Budha of Karnali won the gold in the women’s category of the competition by completing the set distance in 2 minutes 36.26 seconds. Kanchan Bhandari of Gandaki was second and Asha Sah of Madhesh was third.

Gandaki’s Sushant Bote won gold in the students’ 200m race. He completed the prescribed distance in 24.33 seconds.

Abhay Rana of Lumbini stood second and Ajit Thakur of Bagmati stood third. Anushka Adhikari from Gandaki became the first among female students of the same competition.

Anushka completed the prescribed distance in 27.62 seconds. Ritu Joshi from Sudurpaschim was second and Jamuna Lodh from Lumbini was third.

The winners were awarded by Provincial Sports Council, Member-Secretary of Gandaki Sridhar Sharma, Provincial Sports Development Council, Member-Secretary of Bagmati Province, Suryalal Bhandari, General Secretary of Rakhep Employees Association, Kumar Basnet and others.
