31 May, Kathmandu. The death toll has reached 49 when a fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Mangaf, Kuwait. Most of the dead are Indian citizens.
The Guardian reported that 42 of the dead were confirmed to be Indian nationals. Indian media also confirmed the death of 42 Indian citizens and said that most of them were from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The deceased are in the age group of 20 to 50 years.
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh is going to Kuwait today. It is said that Minister of State Singh will understand the cause of the fire with the Kuwaiti government, meet the injured and bring the dead bodies to India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the death of an Indian citizen in the fire.
According to Kuwaiti media, a fire broke out in a 6-story building at 6 am local time on Wednesday morning. A local company was using the building as a labor camp. About 200 migrant workers were kept there. However, it is said that the capacity of the building is less than that.
There were also Nepalese workers in that building. There are preliminary reports that 5 Nepalis were injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been revealed. The Kuwaiti government has launched an investigation to find out the cause of the fire.
