Do not carry licensed firearms without obtaining a travel permit

18 June, Kathmandu. It will not be possible to walk with licensed weapons without obtaining a travel permit.

The cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided that it will not be allowed to carry licensed weapons without obtaining a travel permit.

The meeting has decided that ‘arms that have been licensed according to the current law but not obtained a travel permit cannot be taken out of the house without a permit, and arms that have not obtained a travel permit will not be allowed to be found in designated places’.

With this decision, those who carry weapons with a license have to obtain a separate travel permit to carry them.

According to the amended provisions of the Arms and Equipment Act 2019, there is a provision to issue a license to be carried only in certain places.

On 5th Chait, Ramkumar Dhimal and Deepak Khadka, the bodyguards of Jhapa medical professional Durga Prasain, were arrested with 100 rounds of bullets and weapons from the gate of the Supreme Court.

After their arrest, the police started an investigation. When he was arrested, it was found that another bodyguard, Ramkumar Dhimal, was carrying the weapon that Khadka was supposed to be carrying.

The Supreme Court had ordered the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the weapons after hearing the writ petition filed by Bodyguard.

On March 15, under the coordination of Joint Secretary Rajendradev Pandey, the House formed a committee with Deputy Secretary Rishi Paudel and SP Santosh Bhattarai as members and Ekdev Adhikari as member secretary.

In the decision to allow Prussians to keep weapons, it was found that it was written in the license all over the district. It was revealed that the District Administration Office, Jhapa, had given a weapon license to Prasai on 21 June 2075 so that he could carry it all over the country without understanding the sensitivity of the weapon.

The committee led by Joint Secretary Pandey submitted a report to the Home and suggested the standards of weapons. The committee also pointed out that the integrated data of weapons should be kept, weapons should be carried only with a travel permit, regulation after taking weapons and checking during renewal.

According to the suggestion of the committee, the House took the proposal to the Cabinet to be able to carry weapons only with a travel permit. With the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, even if you have a license, you will not be allowed to carry a weapon without a travel permit.
