18 June, Hetanda. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pakharel has said that the Elam by-election has taught a lesson to the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSWP).
Addressing the 12th District Convention of CPN-UML Makwanpur on Friday, General Secretary Pokharel said that the people of Elam have confiscated the bail to the RSVP that they will win all the elections now.
“During the meeting of the power alliance, the friends of RSWP claimed to win the election in the Ilam by-election and said that our MP should write 21 and not 22,” he said.
General Secretary Pokharel claimed that the people saw the need for the UML, which came from struggle, in national politics rather than the populist party. “The people of Elam rejected even the identityists who contested the Ilam by-election with all their might,” he said, “they won the UML that came from the struggle.”
During the speech, he accused RPP Nepal leader Kamal Thapa of not being honest. “After Kamal Thapa said that he would accept republicanism in the last House of Representatives election, UML made him a candidate from Makwanpur by giving him the sun sign, but he became a royalist again, he did not seem honest,” he said.
If Thapa had won the election, he could have remained a republican, General Secretary Pokharel complained that Makwanpur had won the royalists. He said, ‘It was a shame when Khanti Rajawadi was defeated and sent to Makwanpur.’ Deepak Singh of RPP defeated Kamal Thapa and Dina Upadhyay of Nepali Congress in the last election.
Shridhar Pakhrel, Raghunath Khulal, Indraman Syangtan and Lal Bahadur Thapa are aspirants for the post of UML Makwanpur president. Leaders say that as the aspirants could not reach an agreement, it is almost certain that there will be an election on the leadership selection.
