SSP Jeevan Shrestha told Online Khabar that the Valley Traffic Police Office has started serving as traffic volunteers for one hour from Wednesday.
“According to the instructions received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, we have implemented it from today. They will manage the traffic on the road from 9 am to 5 pm,” Shrestha said.
On Wednesday alone, 604 people managed traffic as volunteers at various intersections in the valley. Shrestha says that there will be one trained traffic policeman with each group. “They now stand on the road and look after their own safety and help the traffic police,” he added.
In the valley, 1800 traffic police are engaged in road management. According to the data of the Valley Traffic Police Office, there are at least 300 female police officers among them.
