Today is Buddha Jayanti

Kathmandu. Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated all over the country today on the full moon of Baisakh Shukla Purnima. The 2568th birth anniversary of Siddhartha Gautama, or Buddha, who is known in the world as the harbinger of peace, is being celebrated today. As Gautama Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana are also on the full moon day of Baisakh, Buddhists consider this day as Trisanyoga Day as an important day.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini, Nepal in 563 BC on the full moon day of Baisakh Shukla. Siddhartha Gautama, who was born as the son of King Suddhodhana and Queen Mayadevi, at the age of 29, left the household and palace in search of knowledge.

After six years of penance, Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment at the age of 35 in 528 BC in Bodhgaya, India, on the full moon day of Vaishakh full moon. He gained world fame as Lord Buddha. At the age of 36, he gave a sermon to five disciples in Sarnath for the first time.

It is also known as Arya Ashtangik Path and Panchasheel teachings given by Buddha. The Arya Ashtangik path includes right vision, right resolution, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right exercise, right memory, and right samadhi. Similarly, in Panchsheel there are no stealing, no lying, no sexual adultery, no drinking and no violence. Buddha is also honored with the title of star of Asia because he gave these teachings that are necessary for the human community.

Hindu philosophy considers Buddha as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. For this reason, both Hindus and Buddhists celebrate Buddha Jayanti by worshiping the Buddha on the full moon of Baisakh Shukla Purnima. Shobha yatra and peace rally with Buddha statues are taken out in places like Buddhist Bihar, Gumba, Stupa, Chaitya, Lumbini in Rupandehi, Namobuddha in Kavrepalanchok including Buddhist, Swayambhu, Charumati Vihar in Chawhil in Kathmandu.

On this occasion, processions with Buddha statues and bones are held in different places of the country in the morning. The slogans ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachchami’, ‘Dhammam Sharanam Gachchami’ and ‘Sangham Sharanam Gachchami’ are chanted during morning processions and processions.
