Kathmandu . Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has launched the ‘Plastic Free Zone’ campaign in the Central Administrative Building, Sinha Darbar area.
After the meeting with the delegation of the organization working in the field of environment ‘Sath Sath Sathe Foundation’ at the Ministry today, Minister Thakuri started the ‘Plastic Free Zone’ campaign from his office to eliminate the use of plastic materials that affect human health and the environment.
On this occasion, Minister Thakuri expressed his commitment to monitor and carry out the campaign by placing an awareness hoarding board regarding ‘Plastic Free Zone’ at the entrance of Singha Darbar.
He also emphasized that everyone should use reusable materials to clean the environment and adopt frugality in their lifestyle.
In order to reduce the risk to the environment and human health, the Government of Nepal has banned the production, import, sale, distribution and use of plastic thinner than 40 microns from 1st July 2018 and banned the production, import, sale, distribution or storage of plastic flower bouquets throughout Nepal by publishing a notice in the Gazette on 12th July 2019.
