Directing the government to set up an independent inquiry committee on air safety standards

Kathmandu. The International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the government to form an independent investigation committee comprising experts to investigate the implementation of overall air safety standards in Nepal.

The committee’s meeting held today at Singh Darbar instructed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to form an independent investigation committee of experts to investigate whether or not the air safety standards have been implemented within 15 days and make necessary policy reforms and recommend action if anyone is found guilty.

In relation to recent air accidents, a post-accident inquiry committee has been formed, but instead of improving, the overall air safety situation is getting weaker, the chairman of the committee Rajkishore Yadav said. said. According to him, the decision was taken by the committee after discussing with the Minister of Tourism, Secretary and Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority regarding Air Dynasty’s helicopter accident in the meeting.

The committee has also decided to instruct the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism to submit the bill to amend and unify the laws related to aviation authority, the bill to establish and arrange the Nepal Air Service Authority as soon as possible in the federal parliament.

The committee has also instructed the Ministry of Tourism to provide the details of the study and research reports submitted by the investigation committee and task force related to air accidents, safety and regulation related to air accidents, safety and regulation as soon as possible to the committee.

Similarly, even though the aviation policy in Nepal has been implemented since 2063, as a separate policy related to air flight safety in the country is needed, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism have been instructed to formulate the policy. The meeting reminded the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Office and the Ministry of Tourism that the instructions given to them have not been implemented so far.

Chairman of the committee, Yadav, said that two air accidents in two weeks have increased the risk of damaging not only air safety but also the image of the country, and demanded to find ways to reduce such accidents in the future and bring the officials of the responsible agencies to justice.

Most of the parliamentarians who spoke in the meeting drew the attention of the government saying that there is a tendency to form investigation committees after air accidents and not to implement the reports. In addition, they demanded that the responsible officials be brought to justice, saying that there is negligence on the part of the regulatory bodies in the recent air accidents.
