Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi has given instructions to start the country’s 14th presidential election process.
Addressing the Governors and Governor Generals of the country, the Minister of Interior instructed to establish the relevant executive bodies in the country within three days to establish the election headquarters and to implement other necessary measures.
Iran’s election headquarters has announced that the registration process for candidates will begin on Thursday and last for five days until June 3. It has also specified the conditions and qualifications to be fulfilled by those registering for candidature.
It states that they must be of Iranian nationality, have Iranian citizenship, have a good track record and reputation, and be committed to the fundamental principles of Iran as well as the country’s official religion.
According to IRNA, after registration, the candidates will have to conduct election campaigns from June 12 to 27 and the election will be held on June 28.
Iran’s late president Ibrahim Raisi and his colleagues died in a helicopter crash in the mountainous region of the northwestern Iranian province of East Azerbaijan on May 19.
On Monday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed the country’s first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber, as interim president.
