Kathmandu. Ncell has submitted 4 billion rupees including VAT to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority asking for installment facility for the third renewal of mobile license. Although a total of 20 billion 130 million 27 million 50 thousand rupees has to be paid, Ncell started the license renewal process by paying 4 billion rupees saying that it should also get installment facilities like government-owned Nepal Telecom.
“We requested to pay Rs 20 billion in installments and paid Rs 4 billion as the first installment to the account of the Telecommunication Authority on Monday. We have requested that we pay the renewal fee in five installments over 5 years,’ said a source close to Ncell.
The regulatory authority issued a letter to Ncell on May 4 to pay the third renewal fee.
After the 25-year license of Nepal Telecom expired recently, the Authority had decided to issue a 5-year license on May 28 with Rs 21 crore. After the expiry of its license period of 20 years, Telecom paid the third installment amount in 5 years using the installment facility. Reminding that the government-owned company got that facility, Ncell insisted that it should also get the same facility and paid 4 billion rupees for the first installment.
The board of directors of the authority has not decided whether or not to renew the license. As the matter is being studied, the authority is preparing to decide on the renewal of Ncell’s license within some time. The Authority had given the license of GSM cellular mobile to Ncell on 16th August 2061. Ncell’s second license period is ending on 15 August 2081.
According to the Telecommunications Regulations 2054, if you want to renew the license, you must apply to the authority three months before the license expires. Accordingly, Ncell filed an application demanding installment facility by paying 4 billion rupees in May, 3 months before the expiry of the license valid till 15th of August. If the license is renewed, Ncell’s license will continue for 5 years.
