Kathmandu. The service of internet service providers including Worldlink has been affected due to fiber cutting of other internet service providers including Airtel in Indian soil.
The service has been affected since Friday afternoon. Service has been affected due to fiber cut in the area near Sunauli Naka. Airtel supplies the bulk of the bandwidth consumed in Nepal.
“Fiber has been cut outside our border in Indian land. It has been reported that the fiber of other providers including Airtel has been cut. We are not informed what caused the cut. An hour and a half ago we received a notification that the service would resume within 3 hours. Now we have received information that it will take 2 hours (recovery time),” a technician told Bizmandu.
Worldlink has issued a notice informing that the internet service is affected due to problems in the upstream network. Worldlink has said that the service will resume soon, saying that it is working to solve the problem.
On May 20, the Indian company cut off the bandwidth for sales to Nepal due to non-payment of three billion rupees. Because of this, the internet services of Nepal’s biggest internet service providers such as Worldlink, Vinet, Subisu and others were shut down. It is said that the problem on Friday is due to fiber being cut.
According to Nepal Telecommunication Authority, there are 28 lakh 64 thousand fiber internet subscribers in the country, while ADSL/cable subscribers are around 34 thousand. Among them, Worldlink alone has the highest number of 9 lakhs.
